Eye and Vision Screening

Studies have shown that one in four children between the age of 5 and 18 years suffer from some kind of vision problem that impacts his or her learning.

Quick Overview:

  • The eye and Vision Department at the Health Center, screened 98% of LMS students and 35% of US students during SY 2016-17. Among 6th through 8th graders, 4 out of 10 students were recommended for a comprehensive eye exam and possibly glasses.

The Process:

  • Teachers are informed at least a week before screening is scheduled for their class.

  • Screening Location: Lithgow Library for LMS grade.

  • Weekday mornings, 9.45 am-12 p.m.

Parent and Family Communication:

  • NECO resident working with us for this school year.

  • Students are sent home with a form with screening result.

  • Parental consent forms are sent home, only if a student fails their basic screening test and needs further comprehensive eye exam and intervention.

  • New grant that will provide free eyeglasses for Codman students (no strings attached) and priority for comprehensive eye exam appointment.
